LAST NIGHT’S FUN
The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay Newsletter;
June 2008
Dear Celtic Society members and friends,
Hope this finds you all well and flourishing. In the pages that follow, please note that the Celtic Music landscape is far from jejune this J-June. Mea culpa for stuttering but I’m just so excited about the upcoming concerts that the members of the Celtic Society have made possible; two by Irish singer, songwriter & storyteller Ken O’Malley in just a few days, the eagerly awaited John Doyle-produced CD release concert by Molly’s Revenge at the end of June & the much-anticipated return of the august duo in August of Irish uilleann piper Paddy Keenan & singer/guitarist Tommy O’Sullivan.
Members of The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay have made this quarterly newsletter, our monthly e-mail updates and our concerts possible. I am, as ever, much beholden to them for doing so and additional thanks to those members who receive the newsletter by e-mail only. If you’re not on our e-mail list, offered free to members & non-members alike, please consider doing so. There are always concerts & other information that come to our notice after publication of the quarterly that are passed along via e-mail only.
As always, we have our Free CDs Contest available only for Celtic Society members. (Membership information is on next page should you wish to join) If you make reservations for a concert at (408) 847-6982 or celtsoc@aol.com, (or if you’ve made reservations already, you’re instantly eligible) & you’re the lucky person requesting one of the free CDs, I’ll be happy to hand over your prize at the door on the night of the concert. Only one free CD per person for each issue of the newsletter, please. For the first callers or e-mailers for each of the following concerts, we have:
For both of Ken O’Malley’s concerts, we have copies of his album, ‘O’Maille.’
For Molly’s Revenge, we have, hot-off-the-press, their brand new recording.
For Paddy Keenan & Tommy O’Sullivan, we’ve their CD, ‘The Long Grazing Acre.’
Also, during the annual auction from May 31st to June 7th at radio station KUSP, which with stations KKUP & KZSC the Celtic Society relies upon greatly for spreading the word on our concerts, the Celtic Society has donated a pair of tickets with family memberships (which can be used to extend existing memberships) for a couple concerts of our concerts in September; by The Tannahill Weavers from Scotland & by Slide from Ireland. These items, among sundry other goodies, will come up for bid in the 2pm hour on May 31st for the one & in the 2pm hour on June 7th for the other. Full auction details are at the station’s website at www.kusp.org.
